When you think of “art” what comes to mind? Drawing, painting, or even sculpting but, art doesn't just have to be visual. Art can be found all around our school and community. “Art” can be described as anything creative that expresses our imaginations.
If you think about it, there is probably a form of art you love or would love to try. Acting, singing, dancing, and even photography are amazing ways to express yourself through the arts.
Art is so beautiful, and without it, our world would be a boring place. Unfortunately, youth interested in the arts often learn to center their lives into more “reliable” futures. In recent years, there has been huge pushes for STEM and business lifestyles. Although those are important, pursuing them does not make pursuing the arts less significant.
Art at CTK
Christ the King offers amazing art electives that can even be valuable to your career. There are “traditional” art classes that count toward your art credit such as; drama, vocal, dance, music, visual art, and musical theatre. Some classes combine elements of art and your other interests like; architecture, photography, digital art, and even literary studies.
SHSM at CTK
SHSM stands for Specialized High Skills Majors, and allows students to grow their abilities, and expand their interests on a certain topic, while working towards their high school diploma. To earn an art SHSM at CTK one must complete four art credits, one business credit, and one co-op credit over their 11th and 12th grade years. Participating in SHSM will provide you with unique knowledge of the wide world of the arts, and you will receive a certificate at graduation validating your SHSM work.
Art extracurriculars at CTK
Aside from CTK’s amazing athletic department, they offer diverse art extracurriculars. If you love music try the school's jazz band or pit orchestra. Or, if you love performing there is a choir, dance team, and the school musical. CTK also has a creative writing club, film club, photography, and art council.
Art in Halton Hills
If you want to branch out from CTK, Halton Hills has many amazing ways to pursue the arts. Globe productions: Globe produces musicals ranging from The Sound of Music to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Georgetown Little Theatre: GlT produces plays. If you love acting, but singing and dancing isn't your thing, Georgetown Little Theatre could be an amazing opportunity.
Show off your art!
Halton Hills libraries have areas you can submit your unique art for an opportunity for it to be showcased. You can also wait until youth week in Halton Hills (May 1st to May 7th) to have your art shown in a youth art exhibit!
