Glass Heart

Anonymous

Scientists have always believed hearts are made of muscles and tissue,

Yet how can that be as one struggles to continue,

With a heart that is cracking and breaking as life continues to pass,

It’s as if their heart is only made of fragile, fracturing glass.

A substance can only break when it is continuously put to the test,

Carelessly thrown around without peace or rest,

Words can leave cuts and scars that are imperceptible,

There is always a pain to which even the strongest hearts are susceptible.

When constantly left under pressure and torment without regards,

The most beautiful of hearts will simply turn into a million glass shards,

It only takes a few moments for the complete annihilation,

Of what was once a magnificent, sacred creation.

One second to destroy yet an eternity to rebuild,

What was once so whole and pure is now a part that will forever be left unfulfilled,

The delicate fragments carry piercing edges that cut deeper than a knife,

A representation of love that in the end has brought affliction and strife.

Although life continues and time may heal a heart,

Forever changed, what once was can never return to what it was from the start,

So, as one’s pain and suffering continues to amass,

One must always remember that a heart is only made of fragile, fracturing glass.
