Now that Thanksgiving has recently passed I can't wait for the upcoming holiday. Halloween! As much as I love eating candy and dressing up, one of my other favourite activities to do is watch Halloween movies. Today, I will be recommending my favourites to get you in the spirit!
Firstly, a classic I always love to watch during this time is Halloweentown. This movie brings back lots of nostalgia for me and gives me the true feeling of Halloween. The first movie of the three came out on October 17th, 1998. In the movie, the main character Marine learns on her 13th birthday that she is a witch. She then goes on and discovers a portal that takes her to Halloweentown. This town is filled with witches, ghosts, werewolves and many more creatures that lead a “normal life”. Later, Marine and her family discover that they must fight against the evil monsters and save their family and the world. Now, this movie may come across as corny and childish but for me, this movie was one of my favourites as a child and I think many students at CTK will agree!
The next movie I love to watch during the spooky season is Scream. This movie is a classic and I'm sure everyone has seen it at least once. Scream came out on December 20th, 1996. This movie features the famous villain everyone knows, Ghostface. In this movie, Sidney Prescott, the main character, gets taunted by a killer in her town. Now, this happens exactly one year after her mother's murder. The killer goes after Sidney's friends and forces Sidney to play a game using horror movies and this will dictate what happens to her friends and herself. This movie is filled with jump scares and could be quite funny at times as well. I won't tell you who the killer is but I suggest you watch it right away before I tell!
The third movie that gets me excited for Halloween is Hubie Halloween. This movie is a newer movie and came out on October 7th, 2020. This film features Adam Sandler, Noah Schnapp and one of my favourites, Julie Bowen. Hubie Halloween is not necessarily the best movie but it brings me lots of laughs and happiness to see my favourite actors and actresses together. In this Halloween film, Hubie Dubois is the main character and is a devoted volunteer to his community. Sadly, Hubie gets teased and picked on by his whole town. As well, Hubie is usually the butt of many pranks in the town. Hubie thinks there is a kidnapper and possibly a murderer in his town but no one believes Him. Hubie’s mission is to try and find the kidnapper and possibly the murderer. This movie is different from the many films I have seen, but it definitely got me in the Halloween spirit when I finished.
Overall, these are my top three movies to watch near Halloween. Some honourable mentions are Hocus Pocus, Halloween, The Nightmare Before Christmas, A quiet place, Nightmare on Elm Street and many many more. Scary movies are my favourite but these three movies are perfect for that Halloween feel and to watch with family and friends!
