Spring Has Sprung: Engaging Outdoor Activities For Spring 2022

By: Kaelin Jumaa

If you’re anything like me, then you’re tired of being caged in your house from both the pandemic and the stormy weather. Like many of us, I have been itching for something new to do with friends this spring that takes advantage of the beautiful weather without straining my wallet. From finding new artistic inspiration from developing a better exercise routine, this list is full of imaginative ways to have fun this spring while immersing yourself in the great outdoors!

Journaling & Scrapbooking

Many of us are familiar with dream journals and family scrapbooks. But a pen and notebook can become a huge motivator to spend more time outdoors this spring! Whether it be your backyard or a camping trail, simply taking the time to log the natural scenery around you can boost your mood

significantly as you become present with what surrounds you. Allowing yourself to indulge in every detail of nature is an excellent way to show your appreciation for the earth and its drastic yet pleasant changes in weather. Writing your findings and accompanying thoughts in a customized journal is a relaxing way to get creative, even if you’re not artistically talented! Plus, this is an engaging way to practice proper notetaking for your classes!

Photography

With the ongoing change in scenery, it can be nearly impossible to ignore the beauty of nature at this time in the year. All that is required is a phone and sense of adventure, exploring every inch of your town in hopes to take your most favoured pictures yet! If you’re curious about what your town has to offer, then photography can serve as encouragement to travel to new places and preserve

your best memories of 2022! Photography can be a new outlet to provide change in your day as you hop from place-to-place, while becoming familiar with your street, town, and natural environment as you take the most scenic routes for your photos. This form of visual art can inspire you to take on a new outlook of your world, becoming more grateful for the charm and beauty in your life with every click.

Routinely Outdoor Exercise

Many of us have been cooped up indoors throughout this whole pandemic. But making it a habit to get some fresh air can help ease ourselves back into our pre-covid fitness routines, or develop a new one! Taking advantage of the sunny weather is a great way to look after both your physical and mental health, giving you a fresh and enticing change of scenery from your basement or local gym. A weekly 30-minute jog through one of our city’s trails is an encouraging start, and if you find

yourself with some spare time, consider a bike ride through the neighbourhood! This is also

another way to prepare for any upcoming spring sports at our school, getting some extra practice in beforehand can make a great impression to your future team!

Picnics With Friends

If you’re looking to bask in the welcoming weather while catching up with some good friends, then organizing a picnic is a creative way plan your own get-together with your friend group.

Scheduling a picnic is an affordable and outdoorsy alternative to the mall, as everyone can bring decorations, food, or beverages to your chosen meeting place. And if you’re looking to plan something a bit more engaging, then you can choose to follow a theme for your picnic. This can be anything from a

historical tea party with cucumber sandwiches and teacups to a beach-themed event with fruit skewers and lemonade. This can ensure that you get your needed intake of Vitamin D as you socialize for hours on end!

Setting Up Your Very Own Home Theatre

Although a movie theatre is the most generic way to watch the latest films, it tends to become somewhat boring and pricey. Instead of sitting in a seat sticky with pop surrounded by seat-kickers and light-mode texters, why not make your own theatre at home? All you need is a projector and

screen, with some comfy seating and outdoor decorations for you and your friends and family to enjoy! Eating homemade caramel corn and chocolate-chip cookies instead of overpriced candy can make the experience all the more entertaining. This is an exciting way to redecorate your backyard as you find a new and everyday use for the extra space. Now, you can sit comfortably with your friends as you watch your favourite flicks on repeat!
