These holiday decorations are easy and fun to make, using materials that can be found both around the house and in nature.
Pinecone Hedgehogs
Glue wiggle eyes to the base of a pinecone, slightly above the center. For ears, glue pistachio shells in the pinecone above the face.
Glitter Jars Table Topper
Carefully pour glitter into the base of three, small, equal-sized jars, and arrange twigs in each. These jars look great on the mantelpiece or on your dresser.
Cone Trees
Roll a rectangular piece of paper into a cone. Tape the back of the cone to secure the paper. Squirt glitter glue around the tree to create an effect of snow or tinsel. Make these trees using holiday colors or go crazy by using distinct colors to make a bold statement.
Ornament Branches
Gather some larger twigs that are not too bendy and branch out. Arrange them in a vase and hang ornaments on the “branches.”
Pinecone Trees
Glue paper, cardboard, or wooden stars to the top of pinecones. Paint the pinecones or leave them plain for a more natural vibe.
Little Log Ornaments/Coasters
Saw off an approximately 1 cm section of a branch. You could also use that little section of tree that gets sawed off after you get your Christmas tree. Drill a hole in the top of the log (if you are making an ornament) and sand its surface until smooth. Sketch a design onto your ornament and paint it using acrylic paint. If you’re making the ornament, thread a piece of twine through the hole and tie it at the top so that you can put it on your tree. These little logs also make great presents and decorations, whether you use them for ornaments or coasters.
Christmas Garlands
Cut out motifs such as Christmas trees and gingerbread people from cardstock, foam, or felt. Cut slits in both sides of the motifs, and thread ribbon or twine through the slits. Hang the garland above a mirror, over a mantlepiece, or any other place that needs a little touch of holiday spirit.
Pom Poms
Wrap yarn around your hand 100 times, or less, depending on how thick the yarn is. Carefully slide the yarn off your hand and tie a separate piece of yarn tightly around the bundle of yarn. Cut the loops and trim your pom pom after sliding the bundle off your hand. Keep two of the strands long and tie the ends together. Hang on your tree, around your bedroom, or anywhere else that needs a bit of fuzzy festivity.
